To strengthen our development team in Darmstadt we are looking for you as

DevOps Engineer*

Working closely with colleagues in the United States (San Jose, CA, and Raleigh, NC), this energetic and highly technical team is responsible for creating the next generation of our operational platform infrastructure to expedite the development and delivery of software in the digital medical device space. We work closely with engineering teams to become highly efficient and autonomous by providing automated solutions wherever practical. Your role:

This individual contributor role will need to keep up to date with all modern technologies in the field of cloud infrastructure operations and release engineering (often referred to as “devops”). That skill set will be applied across the following activities:

  • Design and implement new and/or improved deployment and infrastructure automation tools and processes and coach teams on their use
  • Collaborate with development teams on implementing deployment and packaging automation for their apps using Docker, Chef or other appropriate technologies
  • Participate in strategic projects to improve Align’s approach to cloud-based infrastructure and application deployment
  • Coach team members to improve their skills and understanding of software lifecycle tools and processes regarding infrastructure automation, deployment, monitoring, and alerting
  • Develop solutions to automate repetitive tasks, monitor system health, create and update real-time inventories and reports, and improve existing processes
  • Participate in shaping and improving SDLC processes and document them in Standard Operating Procedures

In this role, you’ll need:

  • Masters or Bachelor in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years working on systems admin level with Linux and/or Windows
  • 3+ years working in a cloud environment as senior software or operations engineer (AWS preferred)
  • Experience with any of orchestration tools (AWS EKS-preferable, or Docker Swarm, Rancher)
  • Experience working with configuration and/or infrastructure management frameworks (Terraform-preferable, or Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)
  • Familiarity with modern container technologies
  • Experience deploying, troubleshooting, and maintaining distributed systems and/or client-server applications
  • Strong skills in one or more of the following programming languages: Python (preferable), Java, Groovy, C/C++, Bash, or Go
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in speaking and writing English - intermediate+ (B2 or more - daily project language e.g. in meetings)
  • German language skills are an advantage
